Nel 2004 Michele Curto, con l’Associazione di cui allora era Presidente, organizzò Poland in an event called "Piedmont factory culture." In fact, I find that the combination of the concept of "factory" to the "culture" is absolutely far-sighted and in many ways still not understood by most of the representatives of our policy. Those who govern must acknowledge that culture as well as being a good in itself, it is necessary to promote and defend, concern and care as having a good family man, is also the real possibility of new job opportunities in a sector not yet deeply explored, as it deserves. Because if it is clear that the public financial commitment must go in the direction of support for low-income and the revitalization of areas in difficulty, who are most affected by the economic crisis, you must also take note of the change clearly being groped and draw lines innovative intervention that create new spaces and new opportunities.
Culture in this sense, it is absolutely an opportunity!
Turin as "factory culture" makes it necessary that there are more and more professionals, associations, private companies, young artists can "produce", that's right, produce in culture. Turin, now more than ever, can not be only car, even if the car should remain or become better again (and for that we must fight) one of the distinctive excellence of our city. Because if he had so much Turin by Fiat, has indeed given even more, especially in human terms, and whether it was right to give, the more so today is just pretend.
It should be said, however: in Piemonte, in the last ten years, the institutions have already started working for Culture. And the culture has replied. Excellence as the National Museum of Cinema, the film festival in Turin, the Film Commission Torino Piemonte, funds such as FIP, Torino Film Lab, Piemonte Doc Film Fund, with the help of the Region and the Municipality, have revitalized an industry that has lost centrality in our city, after only a brief period, just at the beginning of the adventure films of the early twentieth century, soon to disappear in the nostalgic memory of a radiance that simply was.
Today, we can say that again about the cinema in Turin, revolves around an industry than into the city several million euros each year and that around the film and television productions, such as, but not limited to, began to create offshoots, which can and must grow. Then obvious that cultural policy must work in synergy with tourism policy, which is active and responsible, not simply passive. Not enough to open a museum and wait for any visitors, even though it is certainly necessary to diversify and increase the supply, it must then also separate initiative, the answer in a convincing way to the question "Why Torino?". Turin is not enough for us we believe, we know that it's worth it, because our city is clearly wonderful. It is necessary to combine forces to convince everyone else that it does.
This proves, if proof were needed, just how short-sighted statement of Giulio Tremonti, who "do not eat with the Culture." Why do we eat indeed. The inability of the ruling class perspective right now is condensed statements of this kind. Condenses in denominations of Education and Culture, the only country in Europe to go in this direction, obviously considered areas of spending, not just any, but simply at a loss as a voice which does not offer anything in return. As if it were not to blame but their own politics, which is responsible for the use of resources. But culture is selling off a dangerous way of thinking, which undermines the building of a truly civil society.
This, however, shows that in this direction can and must still be done.
The revival of a policy cultural changes and obviously first and foremost through education. The city must commit to this effect, for example giving up the great works to bring more attention to small but actually, the first school buildings, which are the sacred temple where we build the future of the entire country, not only in Turin. Students should be able to form their consciences in a suitable first and providing the necessary equipment to keep up with the times and the offer of the other European Union countries. But schools must also and above all provide spaces for personal growth. Kids need to be accountable long before it does today. Must be able to present their ideas, decide, credere, seguire e realizzare concretamente propri progetti didattici: che ciò possa essere rappresentato dalla realizzazione di una rivista, di un cortometraggio, di una sceneggiatura, di un testo teatrale o di una rappresentazione vera e propria, di una raccolta di racconti, di poesie, di saggi o di fotografie, dalla realizzazione di un sito web o di un business plan o di tutte queste cose, poco importa. L’importante è affiancare alla didattica tradizionale, pur sempre essenziale, delle nuove opportunità di esperienza collettiva, trasmettere il valore del confronto e della discussione costruttiva, generatrice di idee e fondamentale per la crescita intellettuale dei nostri giovani. Understand that others may grow as a person is the starting point for a policy of respect. The need for equality should not mean an obligation to comply, not at all.
Until now, every day, the current policy disinsegna what a real / fair comparison, which is still generating a positive synthesis. He shows us instead as the only possibility of dialogue, or rather non-dialogue, the vicious circle of conflict and irreconcilable opposition irreducible, by the war, the sole voice of political confrontation. In my opinion it happens because the policy fails to recognize its most final end, or the implementation of projects which lead to the common good, being almost exclusively the expression of many "I", unable to turn into a selfless "We."
If the school, first, will become an expression of us and the colorful culture of the society of the future, for now we can only guess and hope, become the focus of the combination and a true dialogue between differences, then maybe we can hope for a more just and equitable community. But to do that, we just all of us, beginning with the citizens of our beautiful city, we must engage. Just for ourselves. "We" must become simultaneously subject and object of policy. Michele Curto
